WPR Work Experience

I have spent two amazing weeks with Willoughby PR agency in Edgbaston, Birmingham. During my time with the company I had the privilege of having the opportunity to spend some time in each of their different departments: heavy B2B, light B2B, B2C and Digital.
Of all the departments I enjoyed business to consumer the most as you could get a bit more creative with things. Some of the things I had a go at doing whilst in the team involved creating blog posts, editing recipes to promote Pyrex, joining a team meeting to do creative brain storms for ideas and putting together press invite packs. A lot of the clients were lifestyle industry ones which I think I would like to focus on in the future when I start working in the PR industry.
I developed both my professional and personal skills whilst working with the agency. I am now more confident when writing up a press release and any case studies for clients. My ability to sit and get work done all in one go has also improved as a result of the two weeks gaining experience. The knowledge I gained working with the digital team has helped me improve my own professional online platforms such as my LinkedIn profile and what content to post and follow on Twitter.
WPR is an agency rather than an in-house team and I really enjoyed that aspect of it, working on various clients' campaigns rather than just one. This has made me swing more towards wanting to go and work in an agency after graduating.
I would definitely recommend anyone studying public relations to go and get as much work experience done as possible because it really gives you an idea of what to expect from a job in PR. It also gives you the chance to practice the skills you've learnt throughout the course and see how these skills are used on a daily basis in the workplace.
I am excited to work with other companies on placements in the future and see how they differ from this one in how they run and the type of work they do.
